Letter From The ChairmanFor many years, I have been both acutely aware of and concerned with a fundamental flaw in the manner in which traditional banks and trust companies manage assets for wealthy families, foundations and endowments. In general, those banks require that all of their clients’ assets be managed by their own employee investment managers – a limited pool. One must always remember that individuals manage money, institutions do not. In my judgment, money management is an art form. There are thousands of portfolio managers throughout the world, but there are only a few truly exceptional ones who consistently generate above-average returns. Most of these “exceptional” managers do not work for banks. Modeled on those strong beliefs, Tiedemann Trust Company was established in 1999 to offer a new approach to the management of assets. We provide flexible, proactive management of individual family, trust, foundation and endowment assets to achieve superior investment performance. We allocate all our client assets to the best independent, individual managers around the world. This program increases the probability of producing results superior to those of banks or investment managers who are limited to their own captive investment managers. Tiedemann Trust Company has established a proprietary database of what we consider to be the best money managers operating in each asset class throughout the world. We continually review and reevaluate these managers to insure that they are performing up to our expectations. By following this business model, we offer our clients dynamic asset management by investment professionals who are the best in the marketplace, irrespective of firm or location. Quite importantly, Tiedemann Trust is far more than a manager-of-managers. We have gathered together a group of highly experienced investment and trust professionals who are truly committed to providing a breadth and level of service that is generally unavailable at traditional investment firms and trust companies. We aim to deliver to our clients superior performance and tax efficiency, as well as access to innovative structural and planning solutions. We also are willing and eager to provide services that are not typically within the traditional “suite” of offerings.
