
Mr. Thorne is a member of the Firm's Strategic Advisory Board, Investment Committee and Board of Managers.
Mr. Thorne’s extensive career in asset management includes his founding of Harbor Capital Management Co., Inc. in 1979, for which he served as President, CEO and Director through 1993 and as Chairman, Chief Investment Officer and Director from 1993 through 2001, and subsequently as Senior Advisor. Currently, he is the principal of Frederick Throne LLC. Prior to founding Harbor Capital Management, Mr. Thorne was President, CEO and Director of the Phoenix Investment Counsel of Boston, Inc. Before that, he served as Officer, Portfolio Manager and Security Analyst at John P. Chase, Inc. Mr. Thorne began his career as a Security Analyst at State Street Bank and Trust Company.
Mr. Thorne is the Board Chairman and Trustee Emeriti of Bowdoin College, as well as a member of the college’s Investment Committee. He serves as Director and Chairman of the Investment Subcommittee of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and is Chairman of the Northeast Health Foundation. He has been a Trustee of the World Peace Foundation since 1987 and also serves as its Treasurer. He is a Trustee and former President of the Francis Ouiment Caddy Scholarship Fund. He also serves as a Director of Investors Select Advisors Inc., the Quebec Labrador Foundation, and Access Worldwide Communications.
Mr. Thorne earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College. In 2005, he was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Bowdoin.
